Alain de Botton, writer, presenter and co-founder of the School of Life, offers both a funny and thought provoking talk entitled, "A Kinder Gentler Vision of Success" on TED Talks.
A few observations made by de Botton:

“We may seek a fortune for no greater reason than to secure the respect and attention of people who would otherwise look straight through us.”
